Sumner Swaner, ASLA, AICP: Park City, Utah
President/Chairman

Sumner Swaner is a professional landscape architect, environmental planner, wildlife biologist and developer. Sumner's work has been published in leading magazines including "Landscape Architecture," "Planning" and "Urban Land." In addition to Swaner EcoCenter, he is the founder of the nonprofit organization Center for Green Space Design and has spoken at venues ranging from small city meetings to the 2002 United Nations World Summit on Sustainable Development in South Africa.

 

John A. Barragan III: Park City, Utah

John Barragan has more than 10 years experience in financial services and corporate finance. John is the senior vice president of TriCor Financial Services Ltd., a financial planning firm with $200 million under management. John has a degree in finance from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. He is currently completing his MBA at Westminster College. John serves on the board of Habitat for Humanity, the investment committee for the National Ability Center, and manages investments for other nonprofits in Salt Lake City.

 

Forrest S. Cuch: Salt Lake City, Utah

Forrest is an enrolled member of the Ute Indian Tribe. He earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in the Behavioral Sciences from Westminster College in Salt Lake City,Utah. Forrest serves as the executive director for the Utah Division of Indian Affairs. He speaks publicly on  issues including Ute History, Utah Indian History, American Indian History, Indian Education, Economic Development on Utah Reservations and other related subjects.

 

Annette Herman: Park City, Utah

Annette has more than 25 years of healthcare and management experience including 10 years with UnitedHealth Group (UHG). She served as the president and CEO of UnitedHealthcare in Utah with UHG's largest national accounts division. Annette's past community board appointments have included the American Heart Association, Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, American Red Cross and the Salt Lake City Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. She holds a B.A. from Wichita State University and an MBA from Utah State University.

 

Ted McAleer: Park City, Utah

Ted McAleer is  the executive director of the Utah Science Technology and Research Initiative (USTAR),  a long-term, state-funded investment to strengthen Utah's "knowledge economy." USTAR invests in world-class innovation teams and research facilities at the University of Utah and Utah State University to create novel technologies that are subsequently commercialized through new business ventures. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School,  Master of Engineering from the University of Virginia, and B.S. in Engineering Management from the United States Military Academy at West Point.

 

Dan McPhun: Park City, Utah

Dan has a strong background in international management, venture capital and environmental engineering. Dan is a senior advisor to Mitsubishi International, working both the New Business Development Department and Precious Metal Departments in New York and  the Environmental Machinery Department in Chicago. Dan has a B.S. and MBA from University of Oregon (what school?), Master in Foreign Service from Georgetown, plus a Certificate in Environmental Engineering from UCLA.

 

Robert Pruitt III: Salt Lake City, Utah

Robert is a practicing attorney active in environmental counseling and related litigation, including hazardous waste problems. He has a Bachelor of Science in finance from the University of Utah and a J. D. from the University of Utah College of Law. Upon admission to the Utah State Bar, Robert worked in all phases of oil and gas, mining, water, real property and environmental law.

 

Diana Swaner: Park City, Utah
Secretary

Diana Swaner is serving as the elected secretary of Swaner’s Board of Trustees. She has considerable expertise in education and social science. Diana earned her M.S. in Social and Philosophical Foundations of Intercultural and International Education with a specialty in Curriculum Writing and has since held a variety of positions which have given her extensive experience in education and management.

 

Paula Swaner, Ph.D.: Salt Lake City, Utah
Founding Board Member

Dr. Paula Swaner has received several degrees from the University of Utah, including a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in English Literature, as well as a Masters of Science in educational psychology and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. She has also received an M.A. from Pacific Graduate Institute in the Mythological Studies Program and is in the dissertation phase of a Ph.D. program from Pacifica University. In addition to her degrees, Dr. Swaner has certifications in Object Relations Theory and Therapy from the School of Psychiatry and Psychoanalysis, as well as from the Academy for Guided Imagery. In 1997, Dr. Swaner received a faculty appointment at the International Institute of Object Relations, a position she still holds. In 2003 she established the Rocky Mountain Psychological Center, a Psychotherapist’s Group Practice involving training and community mental health projects. Dr. Swaner has received numerous honors, including the Heart and Hands Award from the Cornerstone Counseling Center (2001) and from the Swaner EcoCenter (2006), the Norman S. Anderson MD Award for Distinguished Service to Mental Health in Utah (2002), and Emeritus Merit of Honor from the University of Utah (2003).

 

 

Honorary Board Members

 

Tom Bakaly: Park City, Utah

Tom Bakaly was appointed City Manager of Park City in January of 2003. Tom's focus as City Manager of Park City has been on organizational design, the development of high performance self managed teams, performance measures, and helping Park City become and continue to be the "Best Run Resort Town in the Country." Tom has a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California, with a specialization in Public Financial Management. Tom received his undergraduate degree from The Colorado College with a major in history.

 

Bill Fenimore: Layton, Utah

Bill is an At Large Representative and Vice Chair of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR), Northern Regional Advisory Council (RAC). Governor Huntsman appointed Bill to the Utah Wildlife Board Nominating Committee. He was recently awarded the American Birding Association (ABA) Ludlow Griscom Award, one of five ABA awards that recognize contributions dedicated individuals make to dramatically advance ornithological awareness throughout the state of Utah.

 

John Manookin: Park City, Utah

John is currently Vice President, Senior Private Banking Officer for Wells Fargo in Park City, and has considerable financial and management expertise gained from  more than 30 years of banking experience at numerous Utah banks. John has worked to manage entire unit production centers and has, more recently, focusing on working with high net worth bank clients.

 

William McCreary, Ph.D.: Salt Lake City, Utah

Dr. McCreary currently serves as the Assistant Dean for Planning, Finance and Administration in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Utah. As a graduate and adjunct faculty member of the Pacifica Graduate Institute's Clinical Psychology and Depth Ph.D. programs, Bill is fully committed to the well-being of individuals at a social and service level. He is also a Methodist Minister.

 

Joe Sargetakis: Salt Lake City, Utah

Joe is a leader in the Salt Lake and Park City community. He has worked in brokerage and investment management, ranching, real estate and land development. Joe is also a partner in the Napa Valley based vineyard, Parallel Wines. Joe is the former board chair of the Ronald McDonald House, and supports the Utah Museum of Natural History, Health Science Education Council, Norwegian Outdoor Education Center and many other worthy organizations.

 

Paula Swaner-Sargetakis: Salt Lake City, Utah

Paula was one of the founding contributors to and member of the Swaner Nature Preserve, now known as the Swaner EcoCenter. Paula served as the Preserve's executive director until 2001 and was board chair until 2004. Paula served as the board chair of the Rowland Hall St. Marks School, and has actively participated in many nonprofit organizations dedicated to the environment, history, children and education, including the University of Utah Health Science Education Council and Salt Lake City Housing Trust Fund Advisory Board.
