SNP Restoration Efforts
2nd Annual East Canyon Creek Dog Waste Clean-Up Day
Swaner Nature Preserve (SNP) organized its 2nd Annual "dog waste clean up" along the East Canyon Creek corridor and Glenwild trail head on October 10, 2006.
It was a cold and blustery day and, well, we were scooping poop, so the turn out was low. Nonetheless, the Swaner staff and Mary Perry from "Friends of East Canyon Creek," scooped 60 pounds of dog waste in 2 hours. The waste was removed from trails which run along the banks of the creek to help prevent pollution, health hazards to humans and animals, and the spread of noxious weeds.
SNP plans to conduct a similar clean-up in the spring and hopes more dog owners and friends of East Canyon Creek will participate.
SNP encourages all dog owners to do their part and clean up their dogs' waste.
1st Annual East Canyon Creek Dog Waste Clean-Up Day
Swaner Nature Preserve (SNP) organized a "dog waste clean up day" along the East Canyon Creek corridor and Glenwild trail head on November 19th.
With community involvement and help from Mary Perry from "Friends of East Canyon Creek," 150 pounds of dog waste were removed. The waste was removed from trails which run along the banks of the creek. Removing this waste helped to prevent pollution and health hazards to humans and animals. Dog waste also acts as a fertilizer, and its removal is important for preventing noxious weeds.
"Swaner was very impressed with the participation and hard work of its volunteers, but would like to see more dog owners participate in the future. Please come out and help in the spring!"
Swaner Nature Preserve will be hosting another clean up day in the spring after the snow melts, in the same location. Swaner encourages all dog owners to clean up their dogs' waste during the winter season, to help prevent pollution, health hazards, and weeds.
