Education Volunteers

School Field Trips:
Our nature-based field trips allow students from local schools to complement their science curriculum with in-the-field ecology fundamentals in a real world setting.
Students learn about Swaner’s unique habitat types and wildlife, the importance of watersheds, aquifers and wetlands, and how their choices at home affect the environment and their community. Fourth grade programs are conducted in the spring and fifth grade programs in the winter, providing seasonally different yet cumulative learning experiences.
New EcoCenter-based field trips will require additional volunteers to chaperone school groups as they explore the many exhibits. Volunteers are critical to the success of our field trips and are fully trained by Swaner staff to assist in these one-of-a-kind learning experiences.
